Tampere Anti-Racism Week
Tampere is a city for all. There is no room for racism in Tampere.
The Anti-Racism Week will be observed from 16 to 22 March 2026. The city and Tampere-based partners will organise a wide range of theme-related events during that time.

The week is a prominent part of the implementation of the City of Tampere's Equality and Non-Discrimination Plan.
The Anti-Racism week is built around the UN International Day against Racial Discrimination which has been celebrated on 21 March since 1966.
Finland has always been a culturally and linguistically diverse country. Finland's linguistic and cultural minorities include the Saami, Swedish speaking Finns, the Roma, Ingrian Finns, Karelian speakers, Jews, Tatars and linguistic and cultural minorities who have moved to Finland since the 19th century.
The rights of linguistic and cultural minorities are protected under legislation. According to the non-discrimination act, citizenship, ethnicity, religion, skin colour, or any other factors should not determine how a person is treated and can access to opportunities in society.
Tampere for All
Tampere is proudly a multicultural city. Today, around 10% (about 26.000 people) of Tampere's residents has roots abroad and speaks different native languages than Finnish. Diversity is an asset for Tampere and a great opportunity.
The City of Tampere wants mutual respect and equality to be part of the Tampere attitude. Let's work together to create an inclusive urban community and an atmosphere where there is no room for prejudice, hate speech or discrimination. Instead of segregating, let's foster compassion and sense of belonging together.
Addressing racism
The Anti-Racism Week is coordinated nationwide by the Finnish Red Cross. The theme for 2026 is safety.
The City of Tampere encourages its stakeholders, as well as its own services, to check that discrimination in services can be reported and that there is a clear approach to tackling racism and discrimination. As part of the Tampere for All campaign, the City of Tampere has launched a Report Discrimination page.
The City of Tampere will introduce an electronic channel for reporting racism in the summer of 2026. The channel will become part of the city's feedback system.
The City invites to adopt the Principles for a safer space. Those are principles aimed to create respectful interactions and communications in work environments, events and any other activities organised in Tampere. Everyone should feel welcome, seen, and heard as they are, regardless of any individual factor or ground.
New channel for reporting racism coming to Tampere
In the summer of 2026, the City of Tampere will introduce a new electronic channel for reporting incidents of racism. The channel, which is currently under development, will be presented for the first time at the Tampere Residents' Evening during the Anti-Racism Week.
Come along to organise anti-racism events
The city invites associations, businesses, communities, and informal groups to organise anti-racist events and activities during the Tampere Anti-Racist Week. The target group of the week is all the residents of Tampere. The events can be, for example, cultural and community events promoting good relations and encouraging mutual interaction.
