Objectives of grant funding

The purpose of grant funding is to support activities for children and young people during their leisure time. The grants support both activities organized by children and young people themselves and hobby activities and youth work organized by adults for children and young people.

Funded activities should promote growth and independence, social inclusion, and active citizenship. Activities must provide opportunities for participation by children and young people and be free from alcohol and drugs.

Objectives of grant funding

According to the City of Tampere's population forecast, the number of residents aged over 65 is expected to increase by more than 7,800 and the number of residents aged over 85 by more than 2,000 by 2030.

Lifts can significantly support older people in continuing to live independently in their own homes. This also helps to reduce societal costs.

Since 2003, the City of Tampere has funded lift- and repair grants for 124 retrofitted lifts in 31 apartment buildings. However, Tampere still has hundreds of residential apartment buildings with more than three storeys that do not have elevators.

The construction of elevators improves everyday life not only for older residents but also for people with reduced mobility and families with children.
