Support for the child in early childhood education and in pre-primary education

This is a plain language page.

Every child has the right to receive support as soon as they need it. Children usually receive support from a daycare center or preschool unit close to their home.

The director and staff of the daycare center or preschool plan the support that is right for the child. For example, instructions can be supported with pictures. There may be fewer children in the group than usual so that the staff have more time to support the child. Support can also be provided by a special education teacher.

The child can receive support from daycare until the end of elementary school.

Finland complies with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The support needed by children is regulated by the Early Childhood Education Act and the Basic Education Act.
