Every residential building and holiday home must join the municipal waste management system. Waste management is organised by Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto.
For mixed waste, you join the waste management system as a customer of the property-specific waste transport or as a user of a regional waste point.
In February 2024, the Regional Waste Management Committee defined new mixed waste collection areas.

The mixed waste bin should be emptied at most every 4 weeks if the biowaste is not sorted into a biowaste bin or composter.
If the biowaste is sorted in a biowaste bin or composter, the mixed waste bin can be emptied at most every 8 weeks.

The price for emptying a mixed waste bin depends on the bin size and the municipality where property is located. According to the 2025 waste tariff, one emptying of a 240-liter mixed waste bin costs 7.10-10.08 € (incl. VAT 25.5 %), depending on the municipality.
You can reduce costs by sharing a waste bin with nearby properties. In that case, the emptying costs are shared among participants.
The Waste Act primarily requires the property-specific waste transport.
This change improves waste management service level, more customers will have waste collected directly from their property. The waste collection truck empties your bin, so you no longer need to take mixed waste to a regional waste point.
